Yahoo! Research Celebrates Chile Opening
Yahoo! Research inaugurated a research center at the University of Chile, Santiago on Friday, November 3. The center is located at the University of Chile’s science department and will be focused on the exploration and analysis of information on the Web.
The celebration brought together Yahoo! researchers from all over the world, including Yahoo! Research Barcelona director Ricardo Baeza-Yates, Andrei Broder, Ron Brachman and Raghu Ramakrishnan. Roberto Alonso, VP and managing director for Yahoo! Latin America celebrated the special occasion with the researchers. Faculty members from the University of Chile also joined in the festivities. Chancellor Victor Perez and Dean of the Faculty of Physics and Mathematical Sciences Francisco Brieva were amongst the faculty attendees.
The event generated extensive news coverage. Media attendees included all major dailies: El Mercurio, La Tercera, Diario Financiero and Las Ultimas Noticias. It was broadcast by Canal 22 and Telecanal.
