R Preston McAfee Receives Honorary Degree from Purdue University
R. Preston McAfee received an honorary doctor of economics degree from Purdue University on May 10 during commencement ceremonies at the university’s campus in West Lafayette. This is the highest honor the university bestows on individuals to recognize exceptional merit and professional achievements.
Based in Burbank, McAfee leads the microeconomics group at Yahoo! Research and has distinguished himself as an authority on industrial organization and a leader in public policy. He received his B.A. from the University of Florida and his MS and PhD from Purdue.
McAfee has taught at Cal Tech, University of Texas Austin, University of Chicago, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and University of Western Ontario. He has also consulted for the federal government and is a Fellow of the Econometric Society.
“It’s an honor to be selected for such a prestigious award,” says McAfee. “It’s not everyday that a person gets recognition for the work that they love to do. I join a cast of many at Yahoo! Research who fall into this category.”
